Director of Operations


Manage the day to day operations of a lean production/manufacturing team while building a strategic vision for the production arm of the company.  Effectively build and guide the efforts of managers and leads across multiple shifts to achieve the operational goals of the departments.  Build an organization that can drive continuous operational performance, product quality, team safety while supporting the growth of the company. 



  • Direct, coordinate, and facilitate the daily activities of direct reports to ensure the achievement of production goals and customer expectations in a safe, timely, cost-effective manner
  • Ensure standards for product quality, equipment, and operator performance are maintained and that cost-effective technology is used to maximize production. Ensure fixed assets are preserved. Initiates recommendations on purchases of new equipment and production assets
  • Develop a departmental budget, monitor plant spending, and report on operating costs within functional areas. Alert management of cost and labor overrun makes recommendations and implement solutions to problems related to same
  • Work effectively with plant functional managers to develop and maintain a positive employee relations environment. Advise management team on labor issues including safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, training, grievances, and the like. Ensure direct reports are adhering to company policy and administering practices in a fair and equitable manner
  • Work with Human Resources to hire, train, develop, and appraise staff effectively. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy
  • Enhance cost performance, operational excellence systems, Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new manufacturing processes, products, and systems technology to meet business objectives
  • Assist in identifying and implementing operational continuous improvements in safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction
  • Mentor team for long term succession planning, taking a lead role in improving production teammate training, engagement, and retention
  • Drive a positive culture of accountability and results through continuous improvement and effective performance management
  • Manage workforce requirements, temporary labor, and overtime to maximize labor efficiencies
  • Creating and maintaining standard operating procedures and abiding by required regulations
  • Partner with QA Manager to ensure that all finished product meets specifications for release. Improve product quality and cost and reduce customer complaints through proactive programs that include vendor management
  • Partner with Production Planning team to ensure production can meet and or exceeds the needs of the departments
  • Coordinate the execution of production schedules to meet sale needs while maximizing the capacity of the production team thru the most efficient method necessary
  • Maintain excellent communication to the VP of Operations and executive team and thru team members throughout the organization
  • Develop a clear understand understanding of the company’s ERP system, ensuring it is used to full capacity and is maintained to properly support the needs of the department
  • Manage warehouse facilities, maintenance, and special construction projects. Including cleaning, maintenance of external building/grounds, and various custodial needs (bathrooms, floors, waste removal, recycling program)
  • Responsible for warehouse supplies and organizational vehicles (use of, maintenance, repairs, etc.)
  • Have a mindset for future growth. Champion the mission of the organization, spreading a positive attitude through effective change management techniques



  • Bachelor’s degree or Masters highly preferred
  • Around 5+ years of direct supervisory and management experience
  • Around 6+ years of progressively responsible experience in manufacturing (CPG desired) and the production environment.
  • Strong leader with a record of building management teams, developing employee engagement and positive cultures
  • Excellent communication skills and experience in presenting to executive-level managers
  • Possesses an enthusiastic, results-oriented, and quality-focused leadership style
  • Requires a solid understanding of data management, metrics, and has skills in creating and interpreting reports.  Understands the importance of making decisions based on data and intuition.  
  • Experienced in outsourcing production and working with co-packers
  • Preferred exposure to NetSuite ERP and Power BI
  • Advanced knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel, and Word required
  • Ability to use sound judgment under otherwise stressful situations  
  • Experience with production deadlines and excellent time management skills
